Beginner Quilting with Marie - June 8th & June 22nd

*This is a 2 part class (3 hours per class)
Part 1- Sunday June 8 and Part 2 - Sunday June 22 1-4pm

This class is for anyone who has always wanted to try quilting but is overwhelmed or doesn’t know where to start. We will cover quilting tools, terms, and basic techniques. Everything will be thoroughly explained as we go through each step together and create a cute little quilt from start to finish!

In our first class we will cover:
Basic quilting terminology
Reading a pattern for material requirements
Reading instructions
Proper pressing new fabric
Proper cutting with ruler and rotary cutter
Achieving an accurate ¼ inch seam allowance
How to properly press seams
*We will finish the quilt top in this first class

2nd class will cover:
Batting
Backing
Layering options
Basic machine quilting
Making binding
Attaching binding, mitered corners
Quilt labels
*You will leave this class with a finished 19.5 x 19.5 mini quilt!

Class limited to 6 attendees (minimum 2 or class will be rescheduled)

Included: Fabric kit to complete the project.

Required Materials: (Available for purchase at Humble Stitch if needed.)
Sewing Machine (Bring your own or reserve one of ours)
Thread (Sewing thread should be 100% cotton 50 weight)
Rotary cutter
Quilting ruler (6"x24" would be best)
Pins
Seam ripper
Hand sewing needle
Wonder Clips
Small scissors
Frixion Pen or other temporary pen for marking quilting lines

Notes:
You have the option to bring your own sewing machine or reserve one of ours. Thanks to our partnership with Hoover's Bernina Sew, we have Bernina 475's and 570's, for classroom use.
* If you would like to reserve one of our machines, please let us know prior to the day of class.
* If you are bringing your own machine please have it loaded with a full bobbin and a fresh 80/12 needle.
* A cutting station and an Ironing station will be set up for your use.
* Project in picture is a sample. Kit fabric colors may vary. Objects in the photo are for size reference only and not included in your kit.

** You MUST be familiar with using a sewing machine. If you bring your own please make sure it is in good working order, has a full bobbin, and a ¼ inch quilting foot.
If you use our machine it will be ready to go. If you have never used one please come a little early to familiarize yourself with the machine.
**We will not have time in class for basic machine instruction.

Please note that classes are non-refundable. Should there be inclement weather, class will be rescheduled. You must be able to make small repetitive movements with your hands and wrists and be at least 18 years of age or older to attend.
